In business since 1971, MakLoc Buildings Inc. is a family owned leader in the structural steel building design and manufacturing business; supporting custom development for oil and gas, heavy industry, agriculture and commercial industries in Western Canada.

We are seeking a dynamic individual to fill a key position within our team as an Estimator. This individual should have drive, motivation, experience, and professional skills to manage both people and the challenges that come with a diverse construction portfolio.

Reporting to the Director of Sales and Estimating, the Estimator will play a key role in developing estimates and professional proposals for our existing and prospective customers. The estimator will work closely with Business Development and other internal business units, to ensure unique project requirements are met, and that a quality bid is prepared and put forward for each project.

Estimating responsibilities include, preparing quotes for our core product lines (Self Frame, Rigid Frame, Skids, and Platforms) and structural accessories using our internal quote program. Additionally, liaising with 3rd party suppliers for outsourced services or products, when necessary.

Responsibilities are, but not limited to:

  • Prepare estimates across a diverse construction portfolio
  • Review and understand bid specifications and drawings
  • Keep MakLoc’s internal CRM up to date with the status of estimates, and communication with customers
  • Work with MakLoc’s various internal technical departments to address unique design requirements on each bid
  • Participate in internal project kick-offs to advise MakLoc’s Project Management and Engineering department of project requirements
  • Organize pre-bid meetings with other internal departments and sub-contractors when necessary for complex proposals
  • Manage estimates for more than one project at any given time


  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • 2+ years of related experience is required
  • Recent Construction/Civil Engineering Technology graduates with a background in the construction industry would be an asset
  • Steel building related sales preferred
  • Excellent computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Able to perform site visits when required
  • Strong organizational skills, with an ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently
  • Adapts easily to a fast-paced environment
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Must be able to pass  Pre-Employment Drug and Alcohol Test


  • Salary dependent upon experience
