Welding Manager

Position: Welding Manager
Location/Department: Nisku and Morinville

Job brief
We are looking for a Welding Manager at our Nisku and Morinville locations to drive continuous improvement and optimization of all processes. The successful applicant will oversee all daily operations of the weld shops from production and manufacturing to ensuring policies and procedures are followed. The successful candidate will have the key skills to develop processes that will maximize stewardship, safety, quality and productivity.


  • Plan, organize, direct and run optimum day-to-day operations of both Nisku and Morinville weld shops. Work directly with weld shop supervisors to allocate resources and keep projects on schedule, and on budget.
  • Be responsible for production output, product quality and on-time shipping
  • Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results
  • Monitor operations and trigger corrective actions when needed
  • Share a trusting relationship with workgroup and recruit, manage and develop employees
  • Collect and analyze data to find places of waste or overtime
  • Track shop efficiencies by individual jobs and provide monthly welding reports
  • Commitment to safety procedures and policies
  • Address employees’ issues
  • Stay up to date with latest production management best practices and concepts
  • Assist estimating department with providing estimated weld hours for bidding purposes
  • Maintain clean and safe weld shops


  • Proven working experience in a supervisor/management role
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting/understanding drawings
  • Experience with rigid frames, structural skids, staircase and handrail construction
  • Previous or current CWB welder qualification. CWB supervisor certification an asset.
  • Adequate knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources, safety)
  • Familiarity with industry standard equipment and technical expertise with CNC operations
  • Knowledgeable of, and committed to safety, quality, productivity, inventory and stewardship processes
  • Computer literacy – Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to create accountability and to lead by example
  • Strong team building, decision-making and people management skills
